ESH romp to AR 5 a side football final

The annual Wilkinson Williams AR 5 a side football tournament kicked off on 7th July with 10 teams entered from the out of town retail world. With ESH keen to improve on last year’s efforts (where a solitary win against the AR ladies proved our only win) a strong team of silky skilled athletes was assembled to make a serious assault on the trophy. The team consisted of Dan Howie, Jonathan Brown, Michael Radcliffe, Duncan Wood, Will Rohleder (Bridehall). Paul Cancho, (Thompson Heaney) and Alex Hoare (DTZ).

First up was a match against Wilkinson Williams where ESH prevailed in a 3-2 victory. The hot heads of the tournament, Harvey Spack Field, were our next victims with a closely fought 4-3 victory. With wind in our sales and knowing we had a good chance of making the semi final, ESH took on Colliers and the AR ladies to top our group with 5-3 and 7-1 wins respectively.

GVA Grimley stood in our way in our march to the final. With many chances going begging it looked unlikely to be our day. However the constant perseverance of the team (and the elevated fitness levels of a slimmed down Michael ‘the engine room’ Radcliffe) saw ESH progress to the final after a narrow 2-1 win. For the second time in the day we now faced Harvey Spack Field and felt confident of beating them again to take the trophy. Unfortunately there was no fairy tale ending as HSF ran out 2-1 winners with David Comb single handedly dragging his team to victory. Close but no cigar!!
